Also, the 18-35mm f1.8 is equivalent to 29-56 f2.8 on full frame. There are plenty of less expensive third party f2.8 zooms for EF mount and the 6D II can be purchased quite inexpensively too. DPAF in the 6D II is every bit as good as the M50, and for video usage, the M50 doesn't really have any advantages over a 6D II. Good enough for video, but maybe not photos.ĭepends on your usage.

That said: if you eventually want to upgrade to full frame - and customers interested in f/1.8 zooms often are - it might be better to keep your money in your wallet and take some time to save up for full frame. If your are on a budget it can easily be the best option. It is just more affordable to have a M50+sigma f/1.8 zoom than a ff mirrorless with f/2.8 zoom. You need to be really dedicated to a crop sensor camera for these lenses to make sense You will need the R for the benefits of mirrorless. The 6D II + 24-70mm f2.8 is only 150g heavier and is capable of much better image quality. The Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 is similarly humongous and sized like a 70-200mm f2.8. I think it must be a very good speedbooster to give the same IQ. Mounting the EF 24-70mm f2.8 on a speedbooster produces a 17-50mm f2.0.

If the upcoming Viltrox EF to EF-M speedbooster is remotely decent, that may be a much better option. And that is before you include the size of the mount adapter.
Sigma 18 35 t6i review update#
The statement it won't work well without update is not based on my own experience.ĭo you realize how big this lens is? Even though it has a much shorter range, the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is longer and heavier than the full frame EF 24-70mm f2.8 II L. I red on this forum a firmware update was needed, and i did not try the lens on my M50 without the update. I don't think it affects my usage at all. I was running the original firmware and have done the update just now. This lens works also fine with the latest update on the M50. I just bought the dock it to update the 18-35mm f/1.8. There are other AF tweaks you can do as prioritize between tracking focus and most accurate focus. If you use these lenses on a dslr you can calibrate the AF by doing adjustments in the lens. You can update a lot of Sigma lenses with the dock. Are there any other benefits other than to this particular lens? I wasn't aware I could update the firmware. With the latest update there is really nothing to worry about. If your lens does not have the latest firmware update you have to buy the Sigma dock to update the lens. > Make sure you have the latest firmware update for the Sigma lens. I have this combination, and it works perfect! Just wanted to see if my autofocusing fears with this lens + body are unfounded. I have the chance to pick one up for a really good deal, but it doesn’t include the dock, and if I end up needing one I’d rather buy the new bundle that includes it. Has anyone tried this combination out? I’ve been wary of this lens because of the well-documented focus issues that people have had with it with the 80D/M5.
